Williams College student writes about the NSF REU summer program

I’m a rising junior at Williams College, in Massachusetts, where I’m majoring in Math and Chemistry. I love studying plants and am fascinated by the symbiotic relationships between the flora and fauna that surround us. Through this summer experience, I look forward to gaining insight into the lifestyle of a research scientist, particularly that of a field biologist. I’m thrilled to combine these interests in studying Tardigrades and herbivory, separately, in the trees of Kansas this summer. This NSF REU provides us with the opportunity to explore the tree canopy, what EO Wilson calls “the 8th continent”. I’m ready for a stimulating summer of tree climbing, lab work, and learning from my educators, peers, and myself.
