RCA award goes to ‘Canopy Meg’

Article from the online edition of Beloit Daily News:

All of the action is at the top, at least in a forest.

That’s what conservation biologist Dr. Margaret Lowman, known as “Canopy Meg,” told guests at the Roy Chapman Andrews Society 2014 Distinguished Explorer Award Presentation held at Beloit College’s Eaton Chapel on Friday afternoon. Lowman gave a presentation “It’s a Jungle Up There: Climbing Trees to Conserve Global Forests.”

Nicknamed the “real life Lorax” by National Geographic, Lowman uses hot-air balloons and treetop walkways to explore the mysteries of the world’s forests.

After accepting her award on Friday, Lowman stressed how forests are worth a lot more alive than dead. However, she works on finding solutions instead of focusing on the gloom and doom of the forests’ potential demise.
