Fifth graders skype with Dr. Meg Lowman

Ann Mahon, 5th grade Language Arts teacher at Fonda-Fultonville Central School, writes the following:

Upstate New York 5th graders at Fonda-Fultonville Central School in Mrs. Mahon’s and Mrs. Berberich’s Language Arts Classes recently SKYPED with Dr. Meg Lowman!

After reading Kathryn Lasky’s book The Most Beautiful Roof in the World as part of New York State’s Common Core Modules earlier this year, students were anxious to learn more about the scientist behind the book! Dr. Lowman was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to answer some of their questions via a SKYPE session. The students were thrilled beyond belief to have this unbelievable opportunity!

Some of the questions included:
*Are you friends with the author Kathryn Lasky or were you just business partners?
*What was your goal when you started studying plants?
*Where do you get the money for all your expeditions?
*Do you get scared as you walk on the bridges 48′ in the air?
*How many countries/states do you visit in 1 year?
*What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not in the rainforest?
*What’s the most incredible discovery you’ve made?
*What animal do you NOT like to study?
