An international research team involving faculty from Bahir Dar University, North Carolina State University, and Colgate University seeks a one-year Research Fellow who focuses on the human drivers of land-use change. The Research Fellow’s primary duties will be to conduct fieldwork in the South Gondar region of northern Ethiopia as well as to help facilitate the research team’s fieldwork activities in the country. The fellowship is funded by Colgate University’s Picker Interdisciplinary Science Institute through a project titled, “Does religious management mitigate the socio-ecological drivers of forest change in sacred groves of northern Ethiopia?” (see http://news.colgate.edu/2013/05/picker-interdisciplinary-science-institute-announces-2013-research-awards.html); it will be available as early as December 1, 2013.
Applicants must hold PhDs (or be near completion) in anthropology, geography, history, sociology or some other relevant discipline that informs understanding of the complex socio-cultural dynamics of land-use change and natural resource use. Experience conducting interviews and fluency in both English and Amharic is essential.
This Research Fellowship carries a competitive stipend commensurate with experience. It will be offered initially for one year, but there is the possibility of renewal for a second year pending funding. Please submit an application letter and supporting materials (CV and three letters of recommendation) as soon as possible to Peter Klepeis via email ([email protected]) or post (Department of Geography, Colgate University, 13 Oak Dr., Hamilton, NY 13346 USA). Review of completed applications will begin September 1, 2013 and will continue until the position is filled.
