Meg Lowman on Constant Wonder Podcast – BYU Radio

On September 27, 2021 Meg Lowman sat down with Marcus Smith, the host of the Constant Wonder Podcast on BYU Radio, to discuss the explorations of an arbornaut. Here is a snippet of this amazing interview:

Marcus Smith: “Meg Lowman is with us: a biologist, an educator, an ecologist. She’s the author of The Arbornaut: A Life Discovering the Eighth Continent in the Trees Above Us. Meg, that phrase “eighth continent,” can you justify that?”

Meg Lowman: “Ooo Gosh! You know, when I first climbed a tree and a handful of others did it as well, we were so amazed that, again, 50% of life might live up there and yet we estimate that we know less than 10% of those species. So, it really is the eighth continent. It’s an undiscovered portion of the earth that’s very close to access but somehow it’s been overlooked. We probably know more about Mars or the Moon than we know about the tops of the trees in many cases. So low and behold, we need to play catch up and really help explore this eighth continent before it gets cut down.”
